Letterstick Band’s debut album was released to national acclaim in 1999. Stylistically unique in the CAAMA Music catalogue, ‘An-Barra Clan’ has textural sophistication, a level of production and creativity unprecedented in Central and Top End Australian music.
‘An-Barra Clan’ heralded a new direction for reggae music in Australia, a precursor to the style of reggae now popular on east coast Australia. The band presents a strikingly original sound; highlighted by hauntingly unique vocals and use of rare Top End languages, mixing reggae and rock with traditional singing, clap stick and didgeridoo.
Stand out moments include the infectious groove of the title track, and the beautiful vocal harmonies of ‘Jesus A-Wena’.
