The debut album of Eastern Arrernte Band features the hit single Prison Cell, a powerful song which raises awareness of the high incarceration rates of Australian Aboriginal men in the Northern Territory. The album moves onto the cult classic Facebook and closes with a song guaranteed to make you dance, the titular track, Reggae Dancer.
Eastern Arrernte Band are a group of young, desert reggae artists from Ltyentye Apurte, 80km from Alice Springs. Singing in both English and Eastern Arrernte, their songs revolve around country, culture and social issues experienced in their community.
The Eastern Arrernte Band sound consists of smooth, deep vocals, catchy riffs and the classic reggae double keyboard, all of which come together beautifully to capture the crowd and take them on a storytelling journey together.
The debut album was recorded at CAAMA Music and released on the CAAMA Music label.
Recorded and mixed by Jeremy Conlon in the studio with technician Damien Birch.
The album and release was made possible with support from the Australia Council for the Arts.
