Iwantja

Far and away the most popular band in remote South Australia, Iwantja combines rock, ska, reggae, metal, country and blues to create their own distinct version of desert reggae.

Iwantja started as a school band in Indulkana Community, performing at the assembly every Friday.

They developed over the years into a community band, performing at football carnivals throughout the SA lands and larger festivals around the country.

Some of the highlights include playing the International Festival of the Dreaming, Woodford Folk Festival and accompanying Saltwater on the tri-state Sand Tracks Tour.

Iwantja won the Breakthrough Grant in collaboration with Winanjjikari Studios to produce their latest album ‘Palya’ released in 2011.

Iwantja won the 2011 Deadly Award for most promising new talent and has been nominated for two National Indigenous Music awards.
