CAAMA’s condolences to Dr G. Yunupingu’s family and friends

The Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association would like to pay their respects to Dr G Yunupingu, who passed away last night in Darwin at age 46.

From his early start performing with Yothu Yindi and then Saltwater Band, Dr Yunupingu’s solo career saw him winning many ARIA awards, performing overseas in front of Queen Elizabeth II and Barack Obama, and selling half a million copies of his albums across the world.

The popularity of Dr Yunupingu’s music both in Australia and overseas strengthened the Australian music industry and created new audiences for emerging Indigenous artists.

Dr G Yunupingu’s passing is a great loss to the Australian Indigenous music scene and CAAMA would like to extend their condolences to his family and friends.

Karl Hampton,

CAAMA CEO
