CAAMA is excited to present Gawurra (also known as Stanley Gaykamangu). He is an engaging performer hailing from Arnhem Land with a deeply resonant voice and musical sensitivity to match.

Gawurra was born on the Gove Peninsula, Arnhem Land. He spent time as a child on his grandmother’s land of Yathalamara and now lives on Milingimbi Island with his family. His culture, songlines, stories and history are deeply embedded in his resonant voice and soulful blend of traditional and contemporary songs.

Gawurra is a gentle and genuine young leader. He is an Elder in his community, the Old people gave him this knowledge and power. He is a family man with strong morals. It is important for him to teach his kids, brothers and sisters right way, to teach them what he learned from his Mother, Father, Grandmother and Grandfather. Gawurra is passionate about keeping his language strong.

Gawurra is dedicated to his dream to share his music and culture with the world. He has aspirations and plans and his warmth is positively infectious.

He has previously played the following festivals : Garma Festival, Milinginmi Festival, Ramingining Festival, Goulburn Island Festival, Maningrida Festival, Gunbalanya Festival.
